Fashion Awards Green Carpet Set Co-Chairs Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis – The Hollywood Reporter

The Green Carpet Fashion Awards are coming to LA for Oscar week.

Previously held in Milan, the stylish awards ceremony, which recognizes environmental and social sustainability in the worlds of fashion and entertainment, will take place in Los Angeles on March 8. The evening will be co-chaired by a stellar quintet of names: Cate Blanchett , Viola Davis, Simu Liu, designer and director Tom Ford and model Quannah Chasinghorse, who will headline the evening.

“Fashion can and should be a lifeline,” Livia Firth, the force behind the Green Carpet Awards and founder of sustainability consultancy Eco-Age, said in a statement. “Sustainability solutions are intersectional solutions and we all need to come together and forge strong paths with human and environmental justice at the center. GCFA will demonstrate just that – the level of commitment and focus we all need to reflect, bringing together two powerful, interconnected industries to accelerate collective transformation.”

Eco-advocate Firth founded the Green Carpet Challenge in 2010 – in which celebrities make sustainable choices on the red carpet – and launched the Green Carpet Awards in 2017. Late last year, Firth and Eco-Age also debuted The GCC style guidea guide for celebrities and fashion stylists to find ways to be environmentally friendly and inspire fans to make conscious choices.

In 2012, Davis attended the Green Carpet Challenge in a Giorgio Armani dress made from recycled soda cans, and Blanchett is a standard bearer of the rewear movement, choosing to wear previously worn red carpet dresses rather than newly made clothes. Ford’s sustainability efforts include its Tom Ford Ocean Plastic watch.

Speaking about the upcoming awards event, Firth added: “This is not a celebration of an industry that can be distracting. Rather, it’s a recognition of an industry that needs to harness its power for people and the planet. Fashion is a spectrum industry that touches billions of lives around the world and is dependent on a healthy biosphere. We must use this reach and power to make targeted change.”

Set designer and production designer Stefan Beckman will serve as creative director for the awards, which also boast a board of directors that includes model agency trailblazer Bethann Hardison, model Amber Valletta, designer Christopher Bevans and Fashion sustainability editor Tonne Goodman. Partners and supporters of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards include L’Oréal, Farfetch, Candiani Denim and 1 Hotel West Hollywood.
