Cowboy boots reigned supreme at the Dsquared2 Fall/Winter 2023 joint show in Milan on Friday night. Available in a range of colors, the leather boot was part of the prep-meets-cowboy theme that ran throughout the collection. Dsquared2 said in its show notes that it was inspired by its first women’s runway show in 2003 and continues to find its roots in new forms of teenage ensembles – geek, jock, goth, emo and femme. The return of underwear peeking out from low-rise jeans was also a major theme, as models wore cropped ‘Darlin’ and ‘Emo’ print jersey tees with fringe and denim. Other shoes on the runway included desert and biker styles, with retro sneakers making an appearance.

This season sees a collaboration between 1017 ALYX 9SM and American artist Mark Flood, culminating in a retrospective of the artist’s work during the designer’s Fall/Winter 2023 show. This season’s pieces feature a selection of Flood’s work as well as graphics developed specifically for the collection. In terms of footwear, Fall 2023 features a new chunky sole that has been integrated into every shoe featured in the collection. According to the brand, the sole was developed using techniques used to produce the Mono line from previous seasons. The result is a thick sole that is both visually impressive and lightweight. The signature sole is then mounted atop a series of textured leather uppers in the boot’s mid-shape, reminiscent of an exaggerated biker boot, and features throughout the collection’s men’s looks.
