Is there anyone saving us from our fashion drama drought? Milk the cat. Her all-red Schiaparelli moment at Haute Couture Week 2023 ended the event! The “Woman” artist spent five hours sitting legendary makeup artist Pat McGrathAn idea came to life: 30,000 red jewels glued to the skin of a Doja Cat. Devotion to the arts is quickly being lost in the entertainment industry. Tiktok stylists can’t stop talking about the return of 90s simplicity, but thank goodness Doja isn’t listening.
I love when she took the internet by storm one day after her all red look at the Victor & Rolf show. She read that some people were upset that her all red look didn’t include false eyelashes. So another day she used false eyelashes create eyebrows, a mustache and a goatee, proving once again that fashion is about expression and fun. Ah, fashion drama.

On the other hand, another fashion moment took social networks by storm. The Real Housewives of Potomac Pictures of the get-together outfits were released and the fashion was shocking, and not in a good way. We’re looking at you, Gizelle Bryant. The whole blue dress that looked gorgeous on her, the dress itself? Terrible. For some odd reason, the gown has unnecessary shoulder padding, two stripes of rhinestones across the bust and waist, a high neckline, and gloved sleeves adorned with those tragic rhinestones. This is an example of the wrong way to dazzle an outfit, and rather than being revolutionary and inspiring like Doja Cat, it’s downright tacky.
Styling didn’t come back the way it should have after the pandemic. We are seeing the light after the Covid Pandemic where we missed out on seeing the glitz and glamor for over two years. Of course, all things considered, seeing expensive fashion was the least of many people’s worries as we struggled financially and battled illness. However, there was still a part of us that missed seeing celebrities step out and grace red carpets and fashion shows and look fabulous when they’re out and about.
Unfortunately, some stars have yet to make it this year as more events are starting to open up after the pandemic. The Golden Globes were held in January where almost every woman seemed to be allergic to a necklace, bracelet or even earrings! Sorry, I have a problem with celebrities who are styled too simply or horribly over-styled.
Creativity has also been lost in styling. Doja Cat, Lil Nas X and Lizzo are a few celebrities who keep showing us that fashion and creativity go hand in hand. Something that has bothered a lot of people on social media is the fact that these celebrities have millions of dollars to spend on styling, and they only pick plain dresses from the runway without bothering to try unique and funky hairstyles, makeup and accessories.
While some may argue that simplicity in the latest fashion is an indicator of wealth, I think it’s just boring. Anyone can rock a silk dress, but not everyone can sit in a styling chair for five hours and have 30,000 jewels glued to their skin. That is the determination we need to move forward.
With more awards shows to come in the coming weeks, we’ll be crossing our fingers that the men step out in something other than the plain black straight-legged suit and bow tie, and the women finally bring out the sparkly diamond jewelry and fun hairdos that us regulars we can only imagine.
